Dallas Eakins expected to be named Anaheim Ducks next head coach

The worst kept secret in Orange County is about to become a reality. The Anaheim Ducks are expected to name Dallas Eakins as their next head coach.

Eakins was expected to get the gig when the Ducks fired Randy Carlyle back in February. Instead, general manager Bob Murray elected to finish out the season behind the bench.

Despite the delay, Eakins seemed like a natural fit within the organization. He's been behind the San Diego Gulls bench since 2015, is coming off a third-place finish in the AHL's Pacific Division and a trip to the semifinals of the Calder Cup playoffs that past spring.

The 52-year-olds transition to Anaheim should be seamless. He has NHL coaching experience and he's more than familiar with the young talent within the organization.

As I wrote before, Anaheim is planning on reshaping the roster without actually "rebuilding." The core looks much different with a buyout or Corey Perry expected soon. Expect a younger, faster and hungrier group in Anaheim come October with Eakins leading the charge back into relevance.

With a new coach, the draft and free agency on the horizon, it should be one of the more exciting summers in recent memory for the Ducks and their fanbase.

I know I'm excited. Who's with me?
