Andy Greene announces retirement

Defenseman Andy Greene announced his retirement from the NHL today, following 16 NHL seasons.


Greene is 39 years old and spent the last two and a half years with the Islanders, playing 134 games with the team. He had spent his entire career with the New Jersey Devils prior to being acquired by the Islanders in 2020. Greene played 1057 career NHL games and spent his final five years with New Jersey as the team’s captain.

The defenseman signed a one-day contract with the Devils to retire as a member of the team.
