Details of the contracts that defenseman Zdeno Chara and forward Zach Parise signed with the New York Islanders were finally revealed yesterday.
According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, each player’s contract will carry a $750,000 cap hit, as well as $750,000 in potential performance bonuses. Both contracts are for one year.
Despite the fact that Parise is now 37 years old and Chara is 44, these are two really good deals for the Islanders, even factoring in the bonuses. We knew the contracts had to be quite cheap, given that the Islanders were able to work them into a tight cap situation, but at a league minimum cap hit, both players should provide great value for their contracts.
