Anaheim Ducks forward David Backes may not have many games left in his NHL career.

Speaking to the media over the weekend, the 36-year-old forward said retirement after the season is probable, though not certain.

Backes is finishing the final year of a five-year contract, which he originally signed with the Boston Bruins in 2016. He was acquired by the Ducks at the trade deadline last year and has played a total of 20 games with the team. In his 14 games with Anaheim this season, he has three goals and four points.

While he hasn’t had much of a role with the Ducks this year, Backes has had a very successful career, playing 964 NHL games to this point and spending five years as the captain of the St. Louis Blues.

A year later, do you think the trade that sent Ondrej Kase to Boston for David Backes, Axel Andersson and a first-round pick was a good trade for the Ducks?
