Dean Chynoweth will not be returning to the Carolina Hurricanes for the 2021-22 season, as it was announced yesterday that he’s been hired by the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Chynoweth has spent the last three seasons as an assistant coach with the Hurricanes. He will replace Dave Hakstol in Toronto, who was hired to be the first head coach of the Seattle Kraken.

Chynoweth’s NHL coaching experience also includes three seasons spent as an assistant coach with the New York Islanders, from 2009 until 2012. He also played 241 career NHL games as a defenseman, spending time with both the Islanders and Boston Bruins.
