The Anaheim Ducks announced yesterday that they’ve assigned forward Mason McTavish to the OHL’s Peterborough Petes.
McTavish was selected third overall by the Ducks in this year’s NHL Draft. He played nine games with the Ducks this season, scoring two goals and three points, while averaging 13:05 per game in ice time.
By sending McTavish back to junior before he plays his 10th game of the season, his entry-level contract will slide. While he could have been a contributing member of the forward group, at this point, it likely makes more sense to preserve the extra year of the contract at an entry-level salary, to delay what could be an expensive extension a little ways down the road.
