The Anaheim Ducks kick off a five-game road trip tonight, as they face the Washington Capitals.

The Ducks have picked up five of a possible six points in their last three games, with wins over the Los Angeles Kings, Vegas Golden Knights and a shootout loss to the Calgary Flames. That’s a pretty decent outcome against some good teams.

The second line has been on an absolute roll as of late. Trevor Zegras has 14 points in his last 10 games, while Sonny Milano has four goals and 10 points in that time, and Rickard Rakell has four goals and six points in seven games since returning from injury.

However, Ryan Getzlaf will be out of action, having missed the last two games due to a lower-body injury which he sustained against the Kings. As of now, he’s listed as week-to-week. Meanwhile, Adam Henrique was injured against the Flames and also didn’t make the trip to Washington. As a result, Troy Terry, the team’s leading scorer, won’t be playing with either of his regular linemates.

Scoring from the blue line has dried up a little, as Kevin Shattenkirk has just two points in his last eight games after a great start, while Cam Fowler has just one point in that stretch. That said, the larger issue with the defense would be how many shots the team is allowing, and the fact that the Ducks have given up 18 goals over their last four games.

The Ducks are proving their strong start wasn’t just a fluke though and they’re staying competitive against some of the conference's top teams, while currently sitting third in the Pacific Division. The Ducks currently hold a road record 4-4-2, and after the Capitals, Anaheim will face the Buffalo Sabres, Columbus Blue Jackets, Pittsburgh Penguins, and St. Louis Blues.

The goal should be to come away from the road trip with around six points, to stay competitive within the division.
