Of Anaheim’s six wins, this was the third 1-0 game. In the other two games, the Ducks relied on John Gibson to provide excellent goaltending, otherwise they wouldn’t have come away with a victory. However, the win over Vegas was different. The Ducks did a great job of shutting down chances for the Golden Knights and were able to put together a fairly complete game defensively. Anaheim gave Vegas pretty much no chances on the rush and made the Golden Knights work for any quality shots. According to NaturalStatTrick.com, Vegas managed only four high-danger scoring chances all game, compared to nine for the Ducks.
Anaheim actually got some really good chances themselves and if it weren’t for Marc-Andre Fleury’s 27-save performance, which included some pretty great stops, the Ducks could have taken a lead earlier in the game. I’m impressed by how good Isac Lundestrom has been defensively and of course, we can’t forget to mention that Max Comtois already has six goals in his first 15 games.
Again though, the story was Anaheim’s defensive performance. The Ducks don’t have many high-end forwards to work with and with a great starter, putting more focus on limiting chances could help this team (as currently constructed) more than anything.
The Ducks did a great job limiting Vegas’ chances and their game on Thursday was one of their best performances of the season.

Do you think Max Comtois has been Anaheim's best forward so far?
