It was a fairly poor performance by the Ducks in just about every area. Anaheim got off to a brutal start, as Minnesota got the first eight shots of the game and the Ducks didn’t even register their first shot until late in the first period. The Ducks managed just nine shots total through two periods and while there were some chances, they weren’t frequent.
Defensively, the Ducks seemed to lack focus. Defenseman were giving away pucks (like Jacob Larsson’s turnover on the first goal) and were getting caught way out of position. There seemed to be a lack of communication at times as well and the Ducks gave up too many avoidable chances. John Gibson played very well but that was one of a few bright spots in the performance.
Since the game, the Ducks waived Adam Henrique, who led the team in goals and points last season. Henrique had just three goals and four points in 16 games to start this season and was struggling to make an impact.
As for tonight’s game, Josh Mahura will play in place of Hampus Lindholm, who’s out with an injury.
