The Anaheim Ducks dropped the second game of their road trip last night, falling 4-1 to the Nashville Predators.

Matt Duchene opened the scoring for the Predators, finishing off a nice passing play on a power play. It then looked like the Predators had extended the lead shortly after, but the goal was called back due to an offside and then later, Michael McCarron nearly extended the lead as well, ringing a shot off the crossbar. While the game remained 1-0 through 20 minutes, the Predators had the bulk of the chances.

Nashville managed to make it 2-0 for real in the second period, with Filip Forsberg taking a pass from Matt Duchene and burying the puck into the open net. The Ducks actually managed to have a really good back half of the frame but couldn't beat Juuse Saros and it remained 2-0 Predators at the intermission.

The Ducks got on the board late in the third period, as Adam Henrique tipped a point shot, then poked the puck past Saros. However, Colton Sissons walked in just a few minutes later and took a slapshot that beat John Gibson, putting Nashville back up by two. Matt Duchene then got on the board again, scoring an empty net goal to secure a 4-1 Predators win.’

Anaheim actually played well through a lot of the back half of the game and generated some good chances, but just couldn’t convert. Juuse Saros was good and deserves credit, but Anaheim needs to be able to capitalize.

John Gibson allowed less than four goals for once and made some key saves, but also can’t allow that third goal, even if it may have went in off Cam Fowler’s stick. They needed a save to have a shot at tying the game late, but didn’t get one.

Anaheim’s next game comes tomorrow against the New Jersey Devils.
