The World Junior Hockey Championship started today, with four Anaheim Ducks prospects participating in the tournament.

Mason McTavish (F) and Olen Zellweger (D) are part of Team Canada, while Sasha Pastujov (F) and Ian Moore (D) will be representing the United States.

McTavish was selected third overall by the Ducks in this year’s NHL Draft and scored two goals and three points in nine NHL games, before returning to junior hockey. Since heading back to the OHL, McTavish has scored five goals in four games with the Peterborough Petes.

Moore was taken by the Ducks with the 67th pick in the 2020 NHL Draft. He’s currently in his first year at Harvard University, where he’s registered three points in 11 games.

Pastujov was selected 66th overall by the Ducks in this year’s draft. He’s been dominant in the OHL this season, scoring 20 goals and 35 points in 26 games with the Guelph Storm.

Zellweger was taken by the Ducks with the 34th overall pick in the 2021 Draft. He’s produced at an excellent rate with the WHL’s Everett Silvertips this season, scoring seven goals and 27 points in 22 games.

None of the four players have previously participated in the tournament.

In other news, the NHL postponed all games before December 28 and as a result, the Ducks’ game originally scheduled for tomorrow against the San Jose Sharks has been pushed back.

Anaheim’s next game will now come on Wednesday, December 29 against the Vancouver Canucks.
