The Anaheim Ducks fell to the Los Angeles Kings at home yesterday, losing 4-1.
The Ducks were outplayed ealy on and the Kings opened the scoring, as Carl Grundstrom redirected a pass from Quinton Byfield past John Gibson. Some chances were exchanged as the frame went on and Anaheim did start to find their game a bit, but it remained 1-0 after the first period.
The Kings extended their lead early in the second period though, as Jamie Drysdale had the puck taken off him and then Adrian Kempe capitalized, wiring a shot past Gibson. Then later in the frame, Anze Kopitar capitalized on a power play and just a couple minutes after that, Adrian Kempe ripped his second goal of the game past Gibson, and the Ducks found themselves down four after 40 minutes.
Troy Terry managed to get Anaheim on the board with a nice shot early in the third period, but it was still far from a positive frame. The Ducks managed just nine shots in the period and didn’t get much going, falling 4-1.
John Gibson continues to really struggle as of late, allowing four goals en route to being pulled again. He’s allowed 23 goals over his last five games (including at least four goals in each of those games) and has been pulled twice in that stretch.
It’s far from all Gibson’s fault – the Ducks continue to be terribly sloppy defensively and cause a lot of their own problems. That said, Anthony Stolarz seems like the better option in net for the time being.
The Ducks also continue to be inconsistent though and are now 2-4-0 since the All-Star Break. They remain 10th in the Western Conference in points percentage.
Anaheim’s next game comes tomorrow against the New York Islanders, who will be on the second half of a back-to-back.
