The Anaheim Ducks have placed forward Alexander Volkov on unconditional waivers, with the intention to terminate his contract, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.
Volkov is 24 years old and was acquired from the Tampa Bay Lightning last season, in exchange for 2017 second-round pick Antoine Morand and a seventh-round pick in 2023. He played 18 games with the Ducks, scoring four goals and eight points in 18 games, but didn’t make the roster this season.
It’s unfortunate to see Volkov on his way out. I’m not sure he was ever going to be a long-term fit with the Ducks but Anaheim did give up a prospect (who’s been producing well in the AHL at just 22 years old), as well as a pick for him just seven months ago. It’s not a big deal, but it does seem like poor planning and/or asset management on Anaheim’s part to see how things turned out.
