The Anaheim Ducks have re-signed forward Ryan Getzlaf to a one-year contract, worth $4.5 million.

Getlzaf is 36 years old and has spent his entire career with the Ducks. This past season, he scored five goals and 17 points in 48 games, a pace of nine goals and 29 points per 82 games. He’s coming off a deal that paid him $8.25 million per year.

The re-signing remains the only major move the Ducks have made so far today, though they did also sign defenseman Brogan Rafferty to a one-year contract.

This is a high price to pay for Getzlaf but the reality is it’s only a one-year deal and the Ducks have enough cap space that it doesn’t make much of a difference. Anaheim is entering a rebuild and they’re retaining their captain to continue mentoring their young group of forwards.
