After coming up short against the Pittsburgh Penguins last night, the Anaheim Ducks rebounded tonight with a win in St. Louis.
The Ducks fell 1-0 in their game against the Penguins, off a goal that came from Brock McGinn, roughly five minutes into the first period. It was a pretty decent outing for the Ducks, as they outshot the Penguins 33-29 and got their share of chances. Unfortunately, they weren’t able to capitalize and Casey DeSmith was on his game. Notably, Ryan Getzlaf also returned to the lineup but John Gibson left the game with a lower-body injury and Anthony Stolarz came in to replace him.
Tonight, however, the Ducks picked up a 3-2 overtime win against the Blues. Buddy Robinson scored his first goal with the Ducks in the opening frame and after Troy Terry tied the game in the third period, he also picked up the game winning goal on a penalty shot in overtime.
The Ducks outshot the Blues by a 39-25 margin and were the better team tonight. It looked like they could end up suffering a similar fate as they did against the Penguins, with a lot of shots and chances but nothing to show for, but they managed to pull off the win.
A couple notes: Sam Carrick continues to be a really solid depth forward for the Ducks and is becoming an important part of the bottom-six. Anthony Stolarz is also proving to be an extremely solid backup goalie for the team. Though John Gibson’s injury doesn’t seem to be too serious, it’s nice to know that Stolarz could fill in for a period of time if needed.
So the Ducks closed out their road trip with seven of a possible 10 points, and I think we can certainly call that a success. They’ll now return home to face the Seattle Kraken on Wednesday, followed by the Arizona Coyotes on Friday.
