The Anaheim Ducks announced yesterday that they’ve signed defenseman Ben Hutton to a professional tryout agreement.
Hutton started the 2020-21 season with the Ducks, playing in 34 games and registering a goal and five points. He was dealt to the Toronto Maple Leafs at the trade deadline, in exchange for a 2022 fifth-round pick.
Hutton is 28 years old and was an alright depth defenseman with the team last season. He averaged about 18:30 per game in ice time and was a regular part of the Ducks’ penalty kill.
While Hutton was fine for the Ducks, the team’s defense group is already quite crowded and given his age, it doesn’t really make sense for the team to bring back the defender, in my opinion.
