The Anaheim Ducks have traded defenseman Josh Manson to the Colorado Avalanche, in exchange for a 2023 second-round pick and prospect Drew Helleson.

Manson is 30 years old and has scored four goals and nine points in 45 games with the Ducks this season. He’s spent his entire career with Anaheim to this point, playing 453 games with the team over the last eight seasons and is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.

Helleson is a 20-year-old defenseman and was selected by the Avalanche with the 47th overall pick in the 2019 NHL Draft. He’s playing with Boston College, where he’s scored 25 points in 32 games this season.

The move marks the first major deal for the Ducks ahead of this year’s deadline. With Hampus Lindholm and Rickard Rakell as two other key pending UFAs, there’s likely more to come from the Ducks.

A more in-depth breakdown of the deal will be posted in the next few days.
