The New York Islanders will look to jump out to a 2-0 series lead, as they face the Philadelphia Flyers in Game 2 of their second round series this afternoon.

The Islanders are coming off a 4-0 win in Game 1, where they scored early and then held off Philadelphia’s offense, before adding to their lead in the third period. The shots may have been close but the Flyers really didn’t get a ton of great chances.

Once again, going forward this will be the key for the Islanders. It doesn’t really matter how many shots the Flyers get if they’re all visible to Semyon Varlamov and taken from the outside. He’s been too good in the playoffs to be letting in bad goals.

New York’s lineup should be the same as Game 1, with Ross Johnston likely back on the third line in place of Derick Brassard. I still don’t love that substitution but it did work fairly well last game.

So far this postseason, the Islanders have done a great job staying out of the box. Staying disciplined will be important and if special teams become a factor, based on special teams stats from the regular season, they may not favour New York.

This is a big game for the Islanders. We saw them take a 2-0 series lead in both qualifying round and the first round and they need to capitalize on the opportunity once again.

Puck drop is at 3 p.m.
