The Carolina Hurricanes completed a trade with the New York Rangers today, acquiring defenseman Tarmo Reunanen in exchange for forward Maxim Letunov.

Reunanen is 24 years old and has spent the season in the AHL, managing 17 points in 40 games with the Hartford Wolf Pack. His contract carries a $809,167 cap hit and he’s set to become a restricted free agent this summer.

Letunov is 26 years old and he had signed with the Hurricanes last summer. This season, he scored 13 goals and 23 points in 60 AHL games with the Chicago Wolves.

Even though it’s after the trade deadline, teams can still complete trades, the players included just won’t be eligible for the playoffs. Given that it’s a pretty minor deal, that won’t be an issue for either team.
