The Carolina Hurricanes have acquired goaltender Dylan Wells from the Edmonton Oilers, in exchange for future considerations.

Wells, who’s 23 years old, was originally selected by the Oilers in the fifth round of the 2016 NHL Draft and is currently a restricted free agent.

Wells didn’t play in any games this past season but was part of Edmonton’s taxi squad. In the 2019-20 season, he managed just an .878 save percentage in seven games with the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors and an .871 save percentage in 10 games with the ECHL’s Wichita Thunder.

It’s unclear as to where Wells fits with the Hurricanes organization. While Petr Mrazek and James Reimer are unrestricted free agents, the team still has other young netminders in the system in Alex Nedeljkovic, Jeremy Helvig, Pyotr Kochetkov, Eetu Makiniemi and Beck Warm.
