The Carolina Hurricanes look to be back on track after a strong set of three games this week, which followed a four-game losing streak.
The Hurricanes went 2-0-1 over the three games against the Tampa Bay Lightning, Dallas Stars and St. Louis Blues, picking up five of a possible six points.
Against the Lightning on Tuesday, the Hurricanes were in control for the back 40 minutes and put 41 shots on Andrei Vasilevskiy. Carolina held on for a 3-2 win after a strong performance but what happened after the game was just as interesting, as Sebastian Aho and Nikita Kucherov were at each other and it resulted in the benches clearing.
Carolina then completely dominated against the Stars on Thursday, outshooting Dallas by a massive 47-15 margin. Scott Wedgewood won the goaltending battle though and Frederik Andersen couldn’t come up with a save when needed, as the Stars took a 4-3 shootout win.
Then against the Blues last night, Carolina got into penalty trouble and didn’t lead in shots but they finally did manage to start capitalizing on their chances, leading to a 7-2 win. While two empty net goals and another late tally were included in the seven goals, the Hurricanes were actually able to convert this time, which was a great sign.
Even though we saw another case of the Hurricanes dominating and then not being able to capitalize against the Stars, it was a promising week for Carolina against a high quality of competition. They put together a really good game against the Lightning and the blowout victory against St. Louis was nice to see, given how much trouble they’ve had burying their opportunities.
Seth Jarvis continues to be good in the absence of Jordan Martinook, scoring four goals and six points over his last five games. Then even though he was held off the scoresheet, Max Domi has looked really good since joining Carolina, playing with a lot of intensity and getting to pucks first.
Carolina will be back in action tomorrow against the Washington Capitals for the first half of a back-to-back set on the road.
