The Carolina Hurricanes have signed forward Andrei Svechnikov to an eight-year contract extension, which carries a $7.75 million cap hit.

Svechnikov was selected by the Hurricanes with the second-overall pick in the 2018 NHL Draft and has scored a total of 59 goals and 140 points in 205 regular season games over his three NHL seasons. This past season, Svechnikov scored 15 goals and 42 points in 55 games, a pace of 22 goals and 63 points per 82 games.

I’ll have a full analysis of this contract out tomorrow but as a quick note, I really like this deal for the Hurricanes. There were reports last year that Svechnikov was more likely to look for a bridge deal, so extending him to a maximum-term contract at a reasonable price instead is a win for Carolina.
