The Carolina Hurricanes picked up a 4-3 shootout win over the Chicago Blackhawks last night.

Carolina’s forwards were beating the Blackhawks on the rush time after time and it resulted in tons of great opportunities. It was good to see so many different forwards getting chances as well and spreading out scoring throughout multiple lines seems to be working very well for the Hurricanes. Jordan Staal specifically has been great to start the year and is much more engaged offensively, finding teammates in great spots with some excellent passes.

Despite giving up four goals, Kevin Lankinen played well for the Blackhawks and had to make saves on point blank chances. The same can be said about James Reimer, however. He certainly can’t be faulted for any of the goals and Carolina’s defense group gave up more chances than they’d probably would’ve liked, but Reimer was strong for the Hurricanes. Once again, he came up big in the shootout as well.

It wasn’t a perfect game for the Hurricanes by any means and defensively, there were too many bad turnovers and opposing forwards being left open. That said, Carolina’s forward group was getting great chances of their own and the Hurricanes continued their hot start to the season with another win.
