Forward Jason Cotton will have his contract with the Carolina Hurricanes terminated, according to Sportsnet’s Chris Johnston.

Cotton was placed on unconditional waivers yesterday, after he indicated to the Hurricanes that he was looking to retire, according to NHL.com’s Michael Smith. The forward was on a one-year contract with Carolina, which he had signed last March.

Cotton is still just 26 years old and was in his first year of professional hockey, spending the majority of the season with the ECHL’s Fort Wayne Komets. He had a total of four goals and six points in 17 games.

Jason’s brother David remains under contract with the Hurricanes.
