The New York Islanders have acquired forwards Kyle Palmieri and Travis Zajac from the New Jersey Devils, in exchange for a first-round pick in this year’s draft, a conditional fourth-round pick in 2022, and forwards A.J. Greer and Mason Jobst.
#Isles Transaction: The #Isles have acquired forwards Kyle Palmieri & Travis Zajac from the New Jersey Devils in exchange for forwards Greer, Jobst, the #Isles 1st round pick in the 2021 NHL Draft & a conditional 4th round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft. 1/2 https://t.co/BaV5g2DcNN
Palmieri is 30 years old and this season, he has eight goals and 17 points in 34 games. He’s in the final year of his current contract and will be an unrestricted free agent in the offseason.
Zajac is 35 years old and spent his entire 15-year career in New Jersey. He’s scored seven goals and 18 points in 33 games with the Devils this season and will also be a free agent at the end of the year. New Jersey will retain half of both Palmieri and Zajac’s salaries.
Heading back the other way are forwards A.J. Greer and Mason Jobst, who have both spent the season with the AHL’s Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Greer is 24 years old and was acquired in a minor offseason deal, while Jobst is 27 years old and was signed by the Islanders in 2019.
The conditional fourth-round pick will be upgraded to a third-round pick in either 2022 or 2023, should the Islanders reach the Stanley Cup Final this year (according to CapFriendly).
I’ll share some thoughts on the trade in an article tomorrow.
