The New York Islanders announced yesterday that they’ve signed forward Aatu Raty to a three-year, entry-level contract, which carries a $859,167 cap hit.

Raty was selected by the Islanders with the 52nd overall pick in this year’s NHL Draft. He spent the majority of the year in Finland’s highest professional league, scoring three goals and six points in 35 games. At one point, Raty was projected as a potential first-overall pick for this year’s draft.

It’s likely that Raty will return to Finland for next season. Assuming he doesn’t play more than nine NHL games in the 2021-22 season, the Islanders won’t burn the first year of his deal and his contract will slide.
