The New York Islanders announced today that they’ve signed defenseman Zdeno Chara to a one-year contract. The financial terms of the deal have yet to be disclosed.
#Isles Transaction: The team has agreed to terms with defenseman Zdeno Chara on a one-year contract.https://t.co/RrJtVWH8RQ
Chara was originally drafted by the Islanders back in 1996 and played with the team for parts of four seasons. He’s now 44 years old and has played a total of 1608 career NHL games. This past season, Chara scored two goals and 10 points in 55 games with the Washington Capitals.
The Islanders need to a fill a hole on the left side of the defense group and Chara should provide some depth. While he’d best serve the Islanders as a bottom-pairing defenseman, it’ll be interesting to see how he ends up being used.
