The NHL Draft Lottery took place today, with the New York Islanders receiving the 13th-overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft.
The Islanders had a very small chance of their draft position changing with the lottery (for better or worse), but didn’t end up moving up or down.
It marks the first time since 2019 that the Islanders are actually selecting in the first round, assuming they don't trade the pick beforehand. They had moved their first-round pick in 2020 to the Ottawa Senators for Jean-Gabriel Pageau, then dealt their first-round pick in last year’s draft as part of the trade with the New Jersey Devils for Kyle Palmieri.
New York’s recent first-round picks include Simon Holmstrom (23rd overall in 2019), as well as current roster players Oliver Wahlstrom (11th overall in 2018) and Noah Dobson (12th overall in 2018). The draft will take place in Montreal on July 7 and 8.
