The Los Angeles Kings wrapped up their six-game road trip with a 5-3 win over the Detroit Red Wings last night.

As usual, the Kings came out with a strong first period, outshooting the Red Wings 13-5. However, it was the Red Wings who struck first, as Michael Rasmussen buried a loose puck in front with under three minutes to go in the frame.

Los Angeles didn’t take their foot off the gas though, putting together a dominant second period. Phillip Danault managed to tie the game a little over midway through the period, going to the net to bat a puck out of mid-air and past Alex Nedeljkovic. Then before the end of the frame, Arthur Kaliyev went to the net to knock in a loose puck, giving the Kings the lead heading into the intermission.

The third period was certainly the most even frame and Tyler Bertuzzi managed to tie the game for the Red Wings with a great tip off a point shot. The Kings took their lead back a few minutes later though, as Phillip Danault took a great pass from Trevor Moore to direct the puck past Nedeljkovic for his second goal of the game. Viktor Arvidsson added an empty net goal late in the game after that and while Joe Veleno did bring Detroit to within a goal with about 45 seconds left, Adrian Kempe scored a second empty netter for the Kings, on route to a 5-3 win.

This was another strong game for the Kings. They controlled the play through a lot of the game, outshooting the Red Wings by a huge 35-13 margin though 40 minutes.

It also caps off a really impressive road trip. The Kings went 4-0-2 over their last six games, picking up 10 of a possible 12 points.

Los Angeles now sits seventh in the Western Conference in points percentage and their next game won’t be until Tuesday, February 15, when they face the Edmonton Oilers.
