With a 3-2 loss to the Colorado Avalanche yesterday, the Los Angeles Kings have officially been eliminated from playoff contention.

The West Division will feature the Vegas Golden Knights, Colorado Avalanche, Minnesota Wild and St. Louis Blues as its playoff teams. The Kings could still possibly finish anywhere from fifth to seventh place in the division.

Despite Los Angeles being eliminated, this should still be seen as a relatively successful season for the team. The Kings are still in a rebuild and the priority remains developing their young players. This season has seen quite a few prospects step into the lineup, with some already taking on key roles, while other recent additions have also fit well with the team.

So while some of the payoff from the rebuild hasn’t been immediate, the Kings took a step in the right direction this year and still look to be on track to becoming a contender down the road.
