Kings shut out by Oilers in Game 7, eliminated from playoffs |

The Los Angeles Kings were eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs tonight, following a shutout loss to the Edmonton Oilers in Game 7.
It was a relatively low-event opening frame with the Oilers outshooting the Kings 10-7. However, neither team was able to convert and the game remained scoreless through 20 minutes.
Los Angeles was heavily outplayed in the second period though, being outshot 25-9. Then with under seven minutes to go in the frame, Cody Ceci beat Jonathan Quick with a short-side goal, opening the scoring for Edmonton. The Kings were lucky to escape the frame down a single goal but still entered the second intermission at a deficit.
The Kings really didn’t do much to generate chances through a lot of the period despite desperately needing a goal. Then with under four minutes left, Connor McDavid was stopped on a rush but managed to get the puck back and follow-up to beat Quick in front, making it a 2-0 Oilers lead. The Kings held some zone time near the end of the period but still couldn't get a ton going and Edmonton held on for the win.
Despite a poor result in Game 7, it was still a tight series, with the Kings performing better than many would’ve expected.
The loss did mark Dustin Brown’s final NHL game, after Brown announced he’d retire at the end of the postseason. It’s been a great career for Brown with two Stanley Cups and it was nice to see him go out in a battle like this series against Edmonton.
Jonathan Quick also played great for the Kings, stopping 39 of 41 shots. He was great for Los Angeles despite the loss and proved he can still be an impact player in the postseason.
Despite the early exit, the Kings reaching the playoffs this year was a big accomplishment and they’re only going to get better from here. The loss is disappointing but especially after seeing the Kings already take a step this year, this is a team poised for a lot of success.
