While the New York Islanders’ season came to a close two weeks ago, the IIHF World Hockey Championship began today, with two New York Islanders’ forwards competing in the tournament.
Mathew Barzal will be representing Canada, marking his second time participating in the tournament. The center had also played in the tournament in 2018, but Canada did not earn a medal. Kieffer Bellows will be representing the United States, marking is his first time competing at the event.
Bellows played his first game today, while Barzal is expected to join Team Canada soon.
For any Islanders fans who are looking to watch Barzal and Bellows in action, the tournament runs for a little over two weeks. Games will take place from May 13 until May 29, with the tournament being held in Finland.
