Following Vincent Trocheck's departure to sign with the New York Rangers last week, a second key free agent for the Carolina Hurricanes has also found a new home. Nino Niederreiter signed a two-year contract with the Nashville Predators today, which carries a $4 million cap hit.
Niederreiter is 29 years old and has been with the Hurricanes since January of 2019. This past season, he scored 24 goals and 44 points in 75 games.
It’s certainly no surprise that Niederreiter won’t be back with the Hurricanes. It seemed pretty likely he’d be gone ahead of free agency and then with Carolina trading for Max Pacioretty, there’s not much room for him in the lineup.
Regardless, Niederreiter was a quality member of the forward group for several years and should provide the Predators with a well-rounded option for their middle-six.
