The San Jose Sharks made nine selections at the 2022 NHL Draft, which took place on Thursday and Friday.
The Sharks selected four forwards, four defensemen and one goalie in the draft. Here’s a recap of their picks.
FILIP BYSTEDT (1ST ROUND, 27TH OVERALL)- After moving their 11th overall pick to the Arizona Coyotes for three later picks, Bystedt was the team’s first selection at 27th overall. The forward is 6-foot-3 and spent the majority of the year playing junior hockey in Sweden, where he scored 16 goals and 49 points in 40 games.
CAM LUND (2ND ROUND, 34TH OVERALL)- The Sharks selected another forward with their second pick, taking Cam Lund. In 62 games with the USHL’s Green Bay Gamblers, Lund managed 25 goals and 50 points, leading the team in goals and finishing second in points.
MATTIAS HAVELID (2ND ROUND, 45TH OVERALL)- Havelid split the season between playing junior hockey and professional hockey in Sweden. The defenseman scored 10 goals and 19 points in 29 games and went pointless in 23 SHL games.
MICHAEL FISHER (3RD ROUND, 76TH OVERALL)- Fisher spent the year playing high school hockey, with St. Mark’s School. The defenseman posted great numbers, scoring 13 goals and 50 points in just 28 games.
MASON BEAUPIT (4TH ROUND, 108TH OVERALL)- Beaupit was only the fourth goalie taken in the draft. He stands at 6-foot-5 and managed an .893 save percentage in 49 games while playing with the WHL’s Spokane Chiefs.
JAKE FURLONG (5TH ROUND, 140TH OVERALL)- Furlong is a left-handed defenseman who plays with the QMJHL’s Halifax Mooseheads. The defender had strong numbers for a defenseman taken in the fifth round, with 42 points in 67 games.
JOEY MULDOWNEY (6TH ROUND, 172ND OVERALL)- Muldowney scored 57 goals and 97 points in 56 games, playing high school hockey with Nichols School. He also suited up for three USHL games with the Des Moines Buccaneers.
ELI BARNETT (7TH ROUND, 195TH OVERALL)- Barnett is a big, right-handed defenseman from the BCHL. He stands at 6-foot-5, weighing 225 pounds, and scored three goals and 13 points in 53 games.
REESE LAUBACH (7TH ROUND, 217TH OVERALL)- Laubach scored at a high rate with NorthStar Christian Academy and also played in two USHL games with the Youngstown Phantoms.
