Every article, I try to include a poll question for readers to vote on, then review the results from the week’s polls every weekend. I’m a few days late, but here are this week’s poll results and my thoughts on how they turned out.

QUESTION: If you could select one team in the East ranked from 9th-12th for the Hurricanes to face in the qualifying round, who would it be?

(Votes: 39)

Montreal Canadiens: 51%
New York Rangers: 23%
Florida Panthers: 18%
Columbus Blue Jackets: 8%

The biggest surprise to me here was seeing New York as the second-most voted for option. To me, the Hurricanes got really unlucky by drawing the Rangers and I’d probably take any of the other three teams before them. I was also surprised to see Montreal so far in the lead here, based on Carey Price. Even if he’s not a star anymore, the threat of him playing like the Price of a few years ago scares me.

QUESTION: Do you think special teams will be an issue for the Hurricanes in their series against New York?

(Votes: 29)

Yes: 93%
No: 7%

I’m hopeful this isn’t the case, considering how strong Carolina’s special teams were in the regular season. However, based on how they operated against New York this season, there’s probably reason to be concerned.

QUESTION: Who do you believe is the better option to start the series for the Hurricanes?

(Votes: 79)

Reimer: 63%
Mrazek: 37%

I was expecting the majority of voters to disagree with me and vote for Petr Mrazek, so this was interesting. While I don’t think Reimer will be starting Game One, I certainly wouldn’t be shocked to see him starting games at some point in the series.
