This article will be another in my series of player profiles, where I’ll look at each player on the Anaheim Ducks and assess how their season went. This piece will focus on Jakob Silfverberg.
This year, Silfverberg finished second on the team in goals and fourth in points. He scored 21 goals and 39 points in 66 games, a pace of 26 goals and 48 points per 82 games, which was just about identical to his pace in the 2018-19 season.
His possession stats were decent, with a corsi for percentage of 49.8 per cent, which was higher than the team’s overall corsi for percentage. However, his expected goals for percentage was quite low, at just 47.6 per cent (according to NaturalStatTrick.com).
He also averaged the third-most minutes of any forward on the team, though I'd say if the Ducks were deeper up front, he probably shouldn't be playing as high in the lineup. He was also key in terms of Anaheim’s special teams units, ranking second in power play ice time and third in penalty kill ice time amongst the team’s forwards.
I’ve already discussed what we can expect from Silfverberg in terms of production next season in a past article but I’ll give a quick recap. Given that his shooting percentage over the last two years has been unsustainably high while his shot attempts are down, I’d probably expect him to be closer to 20 goals and 40 points next season than around 25 goals and 50 points. It won’t be a dramatic decrease but it would be surprising if he was able to keep that pace.
Regardless, Silverberg remains one of Anaheim’s top forwards. Even as the Ducks continue to integrate prospects into the lineup, I’d imagine Silfverberg has a large role once again next season.

Here’s today’s poll question (results and discussion will be posted in a future article):
Do you think Jakob Silfverberg will remain with the Ducks through their retooling process?
