This article will be another in my series of player profiles, where I review the season of every player on the Los Angeles Kings. This piece will focus on Trevor Lewis.
Lewis is one of the few remaining players on the team who was around for the team's two Stanley Cups and while he may not have a huge role, he’s been able to provide a veteran presence for a rebuilding team.
That said, Lewis did see a pretty large reduction in his ice time this season. He was averaging less than 12 minutes per game, which was a drop of more than two minutes per game. He also wasn’t playing nearly as much on the penalty kill as he had in recent years. In terms of production, Lewis scored six goals and 12 points in 56 games, a pace of 9 goals and 18 points per 82 games, which was also his lowest points per game pace in the last four seasons.
He had a corsi for percentage of 52.5 per cent, which may be strong on the surface, but was actually lower than the team’s overall corsi for percentage of 53.1 per cent this season. Lewis was also playing against the lowest quality of competition of any forward on the team other than Michael Amadio (according to Hockey Abstract). When factoring this in, he wasn’t really contributing a lot, based on who he was playing against.
As I wrote in an article a couple of months ago, I don’t think Lewis should be brought back next season and in a poll I did in the same article, 82 per cent of readers also voted that the Kings shouldn’t re-sign him. It’s nothing against Lewis, but considering he’s now 33 years old, it just doesn’t make sense to have him taking a spot in the lineup from a younger player, especially in a year where rebuilding is still the priority and there’s no pressure for the Kings to make the playoffs. He’s been a mainstay on the team for a decade but it’s time for the two sides to part ways.

Here's today's poll question (results and discussion will be posted in a future article):
Should the Kings have traded Trevor Lewis at the trade deadline?
