Every article, I try to include a poll question for readers to vote on, then review the results from the week’s polls every weekend. Here are this week’s poll results and my thoughts on how they turned out.

QUESTION: Do you think we'll see a contract between Ilya Sorokin and the Islanders in the near future?

(Votes: 304)

Yes: 62%
No: 20%
Who knows at this point: 18%

Well, not much to debate here anymore, but 62 per cent of you were right!

QUESTION: What are your NHL expectations for Ilya Sorokin?

(Voteds: 314)

Star: 49%
Quality starter: 37%
Average starter: 10%
Doesn’t end up becoming a starter: 4%

While it’s obviously not a guarantee that Sorokin will be a star, to me, he’s as likely to become a top goaltender as pretty much any other goaltending prospect who’s entered the league in several years. His stats certainly point towards him having NHL success and based on other goalies who have made a transition from the KHL to NHL with similar numbers, I’d have a lot of confidence in Sorokin.

QUESTION: Do you think Ilya Sorokin needs to play in the AHL before joining the Islanders?

(Votes: 165)

No: 56%
Yes: 44%

To me, it’s a bonus if Sorokin spends a bit of time with Bridgeport before joining the Islanders. Obviously the ideal situation is for the AHL season to start before the NHL season but if not, I wouldn’t be concerned about him starting with New York right away.

QUESTION: Do you think either Anthony Beauvillier or Josh Bailey will play on the third line with Jean-Gabriel Pageau in an effort to spread out scoring?

(Votes: 104)

Yes: 64%
No: 36%

I was with the 36 per cent that don’t think they’ll bring either Bailey or Beauvillier down to the third line right away, but it’s certainly possible. I think no matter what lines the Islanders go into the series with, if it’s clear something isn't working, Barry Trotz won’t be waiting long to make some changes.
