Every article, I try to include a poll question for readers to vote on, then review the results from the week’s polls every weekend. Here are this week’s poll results and my thoughts on how they turned out.
QUESTION: Who has the coaching advantage?
(Votes: 51)
Carolina: Rod Brind’Amour: 71%
New York: David Quinn: 29%
Both coaches are in just their second season as a head coach in the league, so coaching experience really isn’t a factor here. It’s interesting to see such a majority voting for Brind’Amour here though and really, I don’t think I have an opinion on this one way or the other.
QUESTION: What’s your prediction for Carolina’s goaltending in the series?
(Votes: 31)
Reimer starts at least one game: 65%
Mrazek starts all games: 35%
If it were up to me, Reimer would probably have the starter’s job for the series, based on Mrazek’s lack of consistency. That’s not going to happen but like 65 per cent of readers voted, I think Reimer will end up starting at least a game, if Mrazek isn’t performing.
QUESTION: Do you view the Hurricanes as a contender heading into the playoffs?
(Votes: 45)
This is tough. For me, the Hurricanes are so close to being a contender but aren’t quite there yet. Carolina is still missing one top-six forward, along with a quality starting goalie in order to be considered a true contender. They could make a deep run again for sure, but I’m not going to place any bets on them going all the way.
