Like I’m doing with my articles covering the New York Islanders to preview their series against the Florida Panthers, my upcoming articles will focus on which players on the Carolina Hurricanes and New York Rangers have performed better or worse when they play their qualifying round opponent.

Unfortunately, when looking at which players on the Hurricanes have statistically overperformed and underperformed against the Rangers, there’s going to be many, many more names on the underperforming list tomorrow than the two players on the overperforming list today. They’re just numbers, but it doesn’t make Carolina’s chances look much better and this turned out to be quite a sad little list.

WARREN FOEGELE

Foegele is still fairly new to the league and as a result, he’s only played eight career games against the Rangers. In that time, however, he’s been impressive, scoring four goals and five points, which are better averages than most of his teammates have put up against New York.

JUSTIN WILLIAMS

Williams has certainly played in a lot more games against the Rangers throughout his career than Foegele, having played 46 games against New York up to this point. He’s totalled 17 goals and 34 points in that time, which is a higher pace in both categories than his career averages. Williams was a key addition for the Hurricanes midway through the season and considering he’s known as a clutch playoff performer, hopefully he’ll be able to play a key role for Carolina in the qualifying round.

I guess the good news is if you’re disappointed about how short this list was, just wait for how many names are on tomorrow’s list, which reviews the players on the Hurricanes who have statistically underperformed against the Rangers throughout their career…….
