As we inch closer to hockey’s return, I’ve been previewing the New York Islanders vs. Florida Panthers qualifying round series. Today’s article will be my final in the series of overperformers and underperformers.
In the last week, I’ve looked at which players on the Islanders have either overperformed or underperformed against Florida throughout their career and yesterday, I focused on which players on the Panthers have overperformed against New York.
If you haven't read the previous lists, you can do so here:
Otherwise, to wrap up the series, here are the players on the Panthers who have underperformed against the Islanders throughout their career:
BRETT CONNOLLY
Connolly is a quality middle-six forward for the Panthers and was a good signing last summer. However, in 22 games against New York throughout his career, he has just three goals and six points, which doesn’t make for ideal secondary scoring.
MIKE HOFFMAN
Hoffman will be counted on to contribute quite a bit of offense for the Panthers in their series against the Islanders, but while he’s scored six goals in 17 games against New York, he’s managed just seven points in total.
JONATHAN HUBERDEAU
Hoffman isn’t Florida’s only star forward who hasn’t produced as well as normal when he’s facing the Islanders. Huberdeau has scored just four goals and 13 points in 20 games against New York, which looks like solid production on the surface, but is a step down from how Huberdeau is typically able to produce.
FRANK VATRANO
Vatrano has turned into a quality producer for the Panthers since joining the team in 2018. However, he’s managed just one goal and no assists in 11 career games against the Islanders, to go along with a minus-five rating.

Here’s today’s poll question (Results and discussion will be posted in a future article):
If you were able to decide who the Islanders face in their qualifying round series, are you happy with Florida as their opponent or would you choose a different team?
