I was going to post an article yesterday focusing on New York’s players who underperform against Carolina. The problem with this, however, was that after doing the research, I found that there wasn’t a single player on the Rangers who has statistically underperformed against the Hurricanes throughout his career. Marc Staal had a few less points than he should’ve averaged and Alexander Georgiev was poor against the Hurricanes, but he’s only played two games against them.
So today’s piece will skip right to looking at the players on the Rangers who have overperformed against Carolina.
FILIP CHYTIL
Chytil has yet to become a quality producer at the NHL level, with just a 0.34 career points per game average. In nine games against Carolina, however, he’s produced at a better rate, scoring five points. This year, he had a goal and three points in four games against the Hurricanes.
TONY DEANGELO
Deangelo is an offensive defenseman and he’s certainly managed to put up points against the Hurricanes. In 11 career games against Carolina, he’s scored nine points and has a plus-four rating and this season, he had four points in four games against the Hurricanes.
JESPER FAST
Like Chytil, Fast hasn’t produced at overly high levels throughout his career but has stepped up his game against Carolina. In 24 games against the Hurricanes, Fast has 14 points.
HENRIK LUNDQVIST
As mentioned in a previous article, we don’t know if Lundqvist will be in net for the series but as mentioned before, he does have an excellent track record against Carolina. In 46 games against the Hurricanes, Lundqvist has a .934 save percentage and just a 2.00 goals against average.
RYAN STROME
Strome had a breakout season for the Rangers this year but as it turns out, he’s always performed well against Carolina. In 22 games, he has 17 points against the Hurricanes.
MIKA ZIBANEJAD
Zibanejad could be a problem for the Hurricanes. Not only does he have 27 points in 25 career games against Carolina, in their three meetings this season, he scored four goals and seven points.
