Back in April, there were reports that the Carolina Hurricanes and Chicago Wolves were closing in on an affiliation agreement. Yesterday, that news became official, with the announcement that it will be a three-year deal between the organizations.
Obviously, this news doesn’t come as a surprise and it also means the Hurricanes will be dropping the Charlotte Checkers as their affiliate in the process. The Checkers are the defending Calder Cup Champions, winning the championship last year with help from several of the organization’s top prospects.
The Wolves lost to the Checkers in the Calder Cup Finals last season and were in ninth place in the AHL's Western Conference when the season ended this year.
