The Los Angeles Kings announced today that they’ve signed defenseman Sean Walker to a four-year contract extension with an AAV of $2.65 million.

In Walker’s first full NHL season, he scored five goals and 24 points in 70 games, a pace of 28 points per 82 games. At just 25 years old, this extension will keep him with the Kings through some of his prime years but will expire just shy of him turning 30 years old.

I’ll give more in-depth thoughts on this contract tomorrow but as a quick note, I love this deal. Walker is a serviceable right-shot defenseman, who was able to add offense without sacrificing defense. The price and term are both great and if he’s able to take on a larger role next season, this could end up being an excellent contract for the Kings.
