New York Islanders 2019 first-round pick Simon Holmstrom will be starting his 2020-21 season in Sweden. The Islanders announced today that he’ll be loaned to Vita Hasten HC and playing in the second-highest professional league in Sweden. We can, however, bet that Holmstrom will probably be back with the Islanders' organization once training camp begins.
#Isles Transaction: Simon Holmstrom has been loaned to Vita Hästen HC (HockeyAllsvenskan).
Holmstrom spent this season with Bridgeport in the AHL, where he tallied eight goals and 15 points in 46 games, a pace of 14 goals and 27 points per 82 games. He joins several top prospects in heading overseas, who will be looking to get into game action earlier than the AHL’s early-December start date.
Holmstrom may have started slow in the AHL but he did have five goals and nine points in his final 14 games of the season. He likely has a ways to go before he’ll be ready to make a jump to the NHL but hopefully, this is an important step in that process.
