Santeri Hatakka is the lone San Jose Sharks prospect leaving the World Junior Championship tournament with a medal this year.

Hatakka and Team Finland defeated Russia in the Bronze Medal Game yesterday by a score of 4-1 to claim third place in the tournament. The defenseman scored one goal and one assist in seven tournament games.

Hatakka had quite a strong performance at the tournament overall. He was jumping into the rush at times and was making more of an impact than perhaps some may have expected. He’s not likely to be a star for the Sharks at any point but he could certainly compete for a spot on the team’s defense group down the road.

Other Sharks prospects who competed in the tournament were Artemi Kniazev and Yegor Spiridonov (RUS) who lost to Hatakka and Finland in the Bronze Medal Game, as well as Adam Raska (CZE), whose tournament was ended by Canada in the quarterfinals.

West Division Comparison articles will resume tomorrow.
