The Carolina Hurricanes picked up their fourth win in a row tonight, defeating the Buffalo Sabres 5-3.

The Hurricanes found themselves down right away, with Jacob Bryson’s shot going in off Alex Tuch only 28 seconds in. The Hurricanes responded a little later though, with Teuvo Teravainen feeding Sebastian Aho for a one-timer, who beat Craig Anderson to tie the game. Buffalo responded only about two minutes later though, with Victor Olofsson firing a one-timer past Raanta, quickly putting Buffalo back ahead. However, once again, Sebastian Aho tied the game for Carolina, wiring another one-timer past Anderson on a power play.

Sebastian Aho continued to make an impact for the Hurricanes early in the second period, spinning off an opponent and putting a great pass to Martin Necas, who gave Carolina their first lead of the game. Carolina went on to outshoot Buffalo 12-8 in the frame, and took a 3-2 lead into the second intermission.

Midway through the third period, Jesperi Kotkaniemi picked up his first goal of the year, as Martin Necas made a great move to spin off a defender and put it over to Kotkaniemi, who slid the puck past Anderson to double the lead. The Sabres pressed to tie the game late but with only about two minutes left, Sebastian Aho buried an empty net goal for the hat trick and while Rasmus Dahlin did score for the Sabres with under a second to go, Carolina took the 5-3 win.

It’s another big win for the Hurricanes, improving to an impressive 8-2-1 record.

Once again, they were able to limit their opponent’s chances and gave up just 25 shots in the win. The penalty kill also looked good, being about half a second away from killing off all penalties tonight.

Martin Necas, Sebastian Aho and Andrei Svechnikov all continued their excellent starts as well. Each of them had a multi-point game and through 11 games so far, they’ve combined for 22 goals.

It was also good seeing the rest of the top-six contributing as well though. Seth Jarvis and Teuvo Teravainen each had two assists, while Jesperi Kotkaniemi picked up his first goal of the year. Given a lot of offense has come from Aho, Necas and Svechnikov, it’s great to see others starting to produce more as well.

Carolina’s next game comes on Sunday, when they face the Toronto Maple Leafs.
