The San Jose Sharks traded forward John Leonard and a third-round pick in 2023 to the Nashville Predators today, in exchange for forward Luke Kunin.
Kunin is still just 24 years old and scored 13 goals and 22 points in 82 games this season. He's coming off a down year, after managing a pace of about 20 goals and 40 points per 82 games in each of the two prior seasons.
Leonard is 23 years old and spent the majority of the season with the AHL’s San Jose Barracuda, scoring 17 goals and 32 points in 45 games. That said, Leonard had spent the 2020-21 season with the Sharks and also played 14 NHL games this season.
I’ll put out a trade analysis article on the move in the coming days but for some brief thoughts, I like this move for San Jose. Kunin is still young and if he can rebound with better production next season, he should be a good addition and worth the price.
