The San Jose Sharks have claimed forward Rudolfs Balcers off waivers from the Ottawa Senators and also assigned a group of players to the AHL.
Balcers was originally drafted by the Sharks in 2015, before being sent to Ottawa as part of the Erik Karlsson trade. Last season, he scored 16 goals and 36 points in 33 AHL games, along with three points in 15 NHL games with the Senators. This offseason, he signed a one-year contract worth $735,000 and will be a restricted free agent when it expires. As a result of the claim, Balcers will have a spot on San Jose’s roster to start the year.
The following players were also assigned directly to the AHL’s San Jose Barracuda: Lean Bergmann, Joachim Blichfeld, Jayden Halbgewachs, Josef Korenar, Jaycob Megna, Ryan Merkeley and Alex True.
Others had to clear waivers to be assigned. Those players were: Trevor Carrick, Fredrik Claesson, Nick DeSimone, Kurtis Gabriel and Antti Suomela. Nicolas Meloche did clear waivers but is still listed on San Jose’s training camp roster.
