The San Jose Sharks announced today that they’ve fired head coach Bob Boughner. Assistant coaches John MacLean and John Madden, along with video coach Dan Darrow were also let go.

Boughner took over as the team’s interim head coach in 2019 following Peter DeBoer’s firing and became San Jose's full-time head coach ahead of the 2020-21 season. He managed a 67-85-23 record during his tenure as Sharks’ head coach.

It’s a bit of an interesting move for Boughner to be let go this long after the end of the season but still before a new general manager was brought in. The reality is also that the team’s issues come largely due to roster construction rather than coaching but regardless, the Sharks will now have yet another important role to hire for this offseason.
